Our Story

WHO WE ARE

The African Indigenous Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development (AIFES) wasborn out of the desire to bring together dedicated intellectuals and activists to start examining the nexus between energy justice, environmental protection, Climate Change and sustainabledevelopment of Indigenous communities, including implications on their economic and social well-being through scaled-up advocacy to promote and protect their inherent human rights from abuses.

AIFES was founded in 2019 with the mandate to advocate and raise awareness of governments and the dominant society at large on situations of indigenous peoples, in relation to energy access , environment, human rights, good governance and perspectives on development and sustainability. It is legally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with Registration No. 166077 and is currently being considered for accreditation by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR).
